A smarter start

Orthodontics for children isn’t about starting early. It’s about understanding growth and choosing the right moment. At Jawz Orthodontics, we begin with clarity. We carefully evaluate development and recommend treatment only when it truly benefits your child. Many children don’t need treatment right away. But knowing that with confidence? That matters.

When should my child see an orthodontist?

An orthodontic evaluation around age 7 gives us insight into how your child’s jaw, bite, and airway development are progressing. It does not always mean early braces, it means clarity at a stage when growth is still adaptable. Most families leave with reassurance. When treatment is recommended, it’s based on growth patterns and long-term benefit.

After the evaluation, there are typically three outcomes:

• Everything looks healthy, no treatment needed
• Early orthodontic guidance if it improves long-term stability
• Complimentary growth monitoring until timing is ideal

  • What we evaluate

We assess how teeth, jaws, and function work together, not just how they look. Our evaluation looks at the entire system, including:

    • Available space and crowding
    • Jaw growth and skeletal balance
    • Bite relationship and pressure distribution
    • Timing and pattern of tooth eruption
    • Airway structure and functional development

When appropriate, we use digital scanning and imaging to guide recommendations based on clear data, not guesswork.

  • Phase 1 treatment - when it helps

In select cases, early orthodontic guidance can:

    • Create space for permanent teeth
    • Support balanced jaw development
    • Reduce risk of trauma to front teeth
    • Simplify future comprehensive treatment

Phase 1 is never routine. It’s recommended only when it provides a measurable long-term advantage. If monitoring is the better path, we’ll say so , clearly.

  • What to expect at your first visit

    • Crowded or blocked teeth
    • Bite misalignment
    • Frequent mouth breathing
    • Early or delayed loss of baby teeth
    • Jaw shifting or discomfort
